Movie Screening and Movie Review Competition
Department of Political Science, St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur organized a movie screening event followed by movie screening competition on September 28th, 2020. The students were shown Denzel Washington’s masterpiece ‘The Great Debaters’. As we know that audio-visual communication has always played an important and influential role in information dissimilation and development of critical approach. By this one tends to learn things fast and in a better way. The event commenced with the address by Rev fr. A Rex Angelo SJ, the principal of the college, who encouraged the use of new information and communication technologies in teaching-learning practices. The film shows how Melvin B Tolson, inspired students to form a debate team which went on to challenge prestigious debate teams of those times at the national level. The story revolved around the social and psychological experiences of the young students who learned to use those experiences in their arguments to convince judges and the audience. The students thoroughly enjoyed the highly proclaimed film and learned about the history of black people in America back in the 20th century. They took with them the importance of education in developing a sense of conviction and confidence in the young minds. After the movie streaming, a movie review competition was organized for the same wherein the viewers were asked to participate and express their thoughts about the core idea of the film along with their critical evaluation of the performances by the actors. Anandita was the MoC for this event and vote of thanks was given by Umair marking the successful completion of the screening.
