Virtual Educational Tour and Group Discussion


 

Department of Political Science, St Xavier’s College, Jaipur organised Virtual Educational Tour and Online Group Discussion Competition on 21st September 2020. The students were shown a video about structure and functioning of Parliament of India produced by Rajyasabha TV.  It covered the process to pass a bill in both houses of Parliament, architecture and structure of the legislative buildings, the experience and observations of retired dignitaries along with the interviews of senior parliamentarians. It also covered the historical details about statues and portraits in the Parliament. Principal of the college Father Rex Angelo while addressing the students said that educational visits are important tool of learning and visit to parliament will help students learn more about democratic institutional practices.

After the virtual tour, group discussion competition was organised on “Parliamentary Practices and Procedures: Need for Reforms in the 21st Century.  Students presented their views on need for reforms in practices and procedures of the parliament in the contemporary times. Students talked about various aspects related to legislative delays, gender disparity, decorum of the house and need for new practices to make the process more deliberative in nature. Kushagra Kulshreshtha stood first and Neha Pascal secured second position.  Avi Sharma was the MOC for the event and Dhruv Verma conducted the competition.
